The English names. "Mattrex" sounds much more like an outlaw than does "Burn Dinorex," and for the other Reploid bosses, the English names are easier to pronounce for an Anglophone. |
| Backstory: |
REX is among the approximately 480 million human survivors of the Eurasia Crisis, who, for the most part, had hidden underground and had been about halfway around the world from where the space colony crashed five years ago. He was born to a fairly average family, but his sophisticated-sounding name was his parents’ prayer for him to someday become far more successful than they. In the months following the Eurasia Crisis, the remaining humans tried to return to their regular lives and/or help the Reploids reconstruct the rest of the Earth. In the five years following the Crisis, REX returned to school as though nothing had happened. He kept his place among the top five percent in junior high school and then in high school, and did not abandon his plans for college and the future.
However, when REX was trying to help clean up a nearby area that was ruined by the Eurasia crash, he found the remains of the Reploid Mattrex among the wreckage. Thinking that the Reploid could be rebuilt, reprogrammed and sent to help with restoring the earth, he tried to take the enormous armor to someone that could help. However, he fused with the armor pieces on contact. He later realized that he could willfully change back and forth between Mattrex and REX Barron; this was fortunate for him, since he would still be able to blend in with other humans and keep working towards a normal future. Later on, he met the other Reploids that were linked to the Eurasia Crisis; thus Critical Mass was born. REX formed the team, led it from the beginning and, thinking that earning some money on the side would help him to pay tuition for six years in college, decided that they should become hired mercenaries, always taking missions from the highest bidder. |
| Personality: |
Cold, remorseless and systematic... That's REX's general demeanor. He's very straightforward when describing himself, though, and he sees himself as rather skilled in several departments, mostly the intellectual, less so in creative and athletic. He doesn't consider himself a god by any means, but he takes what he is at face value. He sees himself as better than MOST people, but not all of them.
REX divides the people around him into four different groups that determine the way he treats them. Equals and superiors make up the highest group, and REX respects these people. REX doesn't mind the second group: those that are slightly inferior to him. When it comes to people further below him, though, he'll either verbally insult them or physically assault them (depending on just how inferior they are) if they get on his nerves, and if any people can easily get him to show his violent personality and hot temper, it's them.
Even so, REX occasionally lashes out at people that are a lot closer to him in terms of rank. He's fairly opinionated and close-minded, so as leader, he tends to accept his way of doing things first. He tends to come off as elitist and generally misanthropic, and while these aren't completely true, he's not above the idea that some people deserve to die. |
| Notes: |
- One of the most noticeable things about REX is the way he speaks. He's rather formal and always uses proper grammar. He's not a grammar Nazi, however, since he doesn't think grammar is as important as speaking skills in general.
- REX also dresses fairly formally all the time. His wardrobe is Gothic in appearance because of all the black, chains and straps, but it's also pretty formal because of the coats and dress shirts, and slacks and boots as opposed to jeans and sneakers.
- Few things can actually make REX loosen up, but the only one that's known so far is his favorite band, Guns N' Roses. Made into immortal cyborgs by Reploid attachments— a treatment that hasn't always succeeded— the band's famous early lineups have put their differences aside and are together making music again in the 22nd century.
- OOC: "REX Barron" isn't my real name, but it's my main online handle. I'm also Infinity Mijinion of the Reploid Rebellion, the Mega Man X6 Team; Ride Boarski of Red Alert, the Mega Man X7 Team and Tretesta Cerberean of Divine Judgment, the Mega Man Zero 3 Team. |

| Weapon Name |
Weapon Description |
Appearance(s) |
| Ground Fire |
Mattrex spits a flame that hits the ground and lingers for a bit. Embers may spread from it. |
Track Four, Track Seven |
| Speed Fire |
Mattrex is able to control his fire breath a bit differently. Using Speed Fire, he shoots flames that pass through walls and travel at a rapid pace. He usually uses this weapon when he is hanging onto a wall using the claws on each hand. |
Track Four, Track Five |
| Body Crush |
Mattrex's skull is made of metal-coated diamond, and his armor altogether weighs well over a ton. He can throw himself at the enemy without suffering any recoil damage. |
Tracks 1-4, Track 8 |
| Screen Fire |
Mattrex sets on fire the entire ground in the nearby area. These flames do not linger like Ground Fire does, however, and will disappear very quickly. |
Track One, Track Four, Track Seven |
| Burner Drive |
This is Mattrex's most powerful attack. He engulfs himself in flames and dashes headfirst toward the nearest wall. A number of flame spouts will jet up from the ground that Mattrex passes over, and anyone on the wall that he rams into will be knocked down. |
Track Four, Track Seven, Track Eight |
| Weapon Name |
Why it is Effective against Mattrex |
Where it is Used against Mattrex |
| Wing Spiral |
Mattrex's internal cooling system is his biggest weakness, but neither water- nor ice-based weapons can affect it. Instead, cold air-based attacks work very well; if such an attack is used on him, his cooling system would be disrupted and Mattrex himself immobilized temporarily. |
Track Seven: "Hunted" |
